Changing Times, Resistant Vibes / Open « Thread Started on Oct 6, 2007, 11:32am »
"I really should start lifting weights..." A young woman of eighteen years murmured to herself, with small sigh of frustration. Bella Swan was finally beginning to regret her lack of activity during all those years of high school physical education. She was trying in vain to lift a rather large and heavy box filled with various clothing items, however her efforts were futile, as she only succeeded in lifting it barely an inch off of the floor. Was it her fault that she had inherited a pair of scrawny little arms?
Plopping down onto the floor, Bella decided that she deserved a break, despite the fact that she had hardly done any strenuous work yet. She reached over and grabbed a hair tie off of her desk, tying her dark brown locks up into a messy bun, just to get it off her neck. Laying flat on her back, the cool wooden floor raising goosebumps on her arms and legs, she stared up at the ceiling and was yet again bombarded with thoughts of the past, of her childhood.
Earlier that morning, she had risen to the familiar sound of rain pounding against every surface of the house, and was oddly soothed by the mundanity of it all. So much was changing, that it was her secret relief to find something that would probably forever remain the same. And now, as Bella sat up slightly and glanced around the room, at all the open and bulging boxes dispersed, she couldn't help but feel nostalgic, like an old man on his death bed, seeing his life flash before his very eyes.
Packing away her belongings was a tedious job, yet a necessary one at that. Bella was preparing herself for what all of her friends and family thought was college, though she would really be with the Cullen family after the wedding, going through the change from one species to another. She couldn't help but shudder a bit at the hardly-anticipated pain that was yet to come, but if it meant being with Edward for all of eternity, then she would endure whatever it took.
The wedding... Looking with sober brown eyes at the shining rock on her finger, Bella was still trying to digest the knowledge that she would be a married woman in a short span of time. She bit her pouty lower lip, and tried to hold back the powerful feelings that came with that realization. However, one of the hardest parts, the highest hurdles, she had already overcome: telling the family. Or, more specifically, Charlie and Renee. Of course, their reaction had been somewhat similar, in the sense of majorly freaking out. But she had told then well enough in advance that they, too, had had time to slowly come to terms with the fact that their daughter was going to be married at only eighteen. Eventually, it had all worked out. They still weren't particularly happy about it, but it was their grudging acceptance that had been she and Edward's signal to proceed with their plans of the future.
And then, there had been the issue of where to have the wedding, who to invite, etc etc... Alice had gleefully taken full control of the wedding plans, and Bella was a bit frightened to see what extravagant event Edward's sister was concocting. She just hoped that the vampire hadn't gone to all too much trouble, otherwise she might become a run-away bride. It sounded so soap opera-ish, but her life was worse than a melodramatic television program.
Fortunately, Alice had allowed she and Edward to decide who would be attending. They had agreed on inviting all of the essentials, like her close friends and immediate family, such as her parents... And then, it was with reluctance that Bella had sent the Blacks an invitation. She had been hesitant to do so, as if sending them an invite would be like saying, "I chose to be Edward Cullen's eternal partner, in your FACE!" right to Jacob. However, it was the polite thing to do, and... she had to admit that seeing the werewolf's face in the crowd of people watching her walk down the aisle would be an immense source of comfort. Even if his expression was less-than-joyous, his attendance would still mean a great deal to her. But something within her said that there wasn't much of a chance that he would show up to see the girl he had imprinted upon get wedded in holy matrimony to a vampire.
With a wistful sigh, Bella slowly rose to her feet and decided that she might as well go downstairs and get something to eat for lunch, now that the morning hours had passed her by. Charlie had already trudged off to work in the cruiser, so she would be safe from his calculating eyes. He seemed to sense that she was hiding something from him, and it was making her a bit jumpy.
After stumbling over a small box of jewelry that she hadn't opened in years, Bella walked over to the door and threw it open, and was surprised to see a figure standing outside of her room, staring straight back at her. She uttered a small scream, startled by the sudden appearance.

"Bella!" Alice said, stepping forward to give Bella a hug. "I saw you were going to need help, so, here I am!" She finished, letting Bella go.
Dancing into Bella's room she asked; "So, where do we start?" She turned to look at Bella, her hands resting on her hips. She scanned the room, taking in the scattered boxes, and the general disarray of the room she was currently standing in.

((no problem, I know how that goes. I get that all the time, unfortunately... lol))
"Bella!"
Still a bit shocked, Bella watched with widened eyes as Alice Cullen leaped forward and engulfed her in an enthusiastic hug. She'd thought she was slowly adjusting to the sudden comings and goings of the Cullen family, with their speed and stealth, but apparently this was not so. "Hi, Alice." She stated weakly, mechanically reaching up and patting the other girl on the back. It would be a dumb question to ask her how she had gotten inside the house.
"I saw you were going to need help, so, here I am!"
The stunningly beautiful vampire chimed, releasing her human companion from the nearly bone-crushing embrace. It was nothing compared to Emmett's hugs, but still powerful enough to prevent oxygen-intake for a few moments. A smile touched Bella's lips, as Alice mentioned her uncanny ability to predict the future. She stepped aside for Alice to enter her room, watching with a mixture of jealousy and awe as she danced gracefully past. That was another one of the things she would never get used to about the Cullens... At least, until she was one. And that wouldn't be too long.
"So, where do we start?"
Looking around at the mis-matched boxes and strewn clothing once again, Bella shrugged sheepishly and said, "Well, I still have a lot that needs put away... A few boxes are ready and downstairs, but Charlie took those down..." She paused briefly to pick up a brown hoodie at her feet, making sure that it wasn't inside-out, and stuffed it into the nearest box labeled Even More Clothes...
Watching Alice with a hint of amusement as she stood in the middle of the room, ready to spring into action, Bella continued, "So, I've just been folding up some of my clothes and putting them away... Though I can't seem to lift the boxes that are full and ready to go... Maybe you could take those down and set them by the front door, if you don't mind?" She said with gratitude evident in her tone, glad to have someone there with inhuman strength to assist her. "I know Edward said that I have a few days before Esme will have that room ready for me, but i just thought I'd get a head-start on moving this stuff..." Trailing off, she forgot about her plans to go eat lunch and trudged over to her closet, trying her best not to trip again. The best part of becoming a vampire will be the effortless grace, no doubt... She thought to herself.
Reaching up and pulling a pair of blue jeans from their hanger, Bella said, "I really appreciate your help, Alice. Not just with this specifically, but the wedding and everything... It's a big change for everyone, I think, but your assistance has been making it a lot easier to adjust." She glanced over and smiled warmly at her close friend and soon to be sister-in-law, grateful to have a friend that seemed to truly understand what she was going through, other than Edward himself. A wave of sadness washed over her as she thought of another friend and something even more that she hadn't spoken to in quite a while now. I wonder what Jake is doing right now... Does he miss me as much as I do him?

"Oh, don't worry, its no problem at all." Alice said, lifting two of the larger boxes and taking them downstairs. she was back before Bella had a chance to blink, grabbing the next boxes. Before long she had them all downstairs, and was helping Bella fold her clothes.
"Especially the wedding, you know how much fun I have with stuff like that." Alice said, smirking slightly. It was pretty easy to notice how much Bella didn't like the idea of a big wedding.
"You know, you'll thank me later." she said, folding up another shirt, "For the wedding I mean. I've already told you that, because its true."
She placed it carefully in the nearest box, moving on to the next one. "So are you excited, I mean, Jasper's been complaining about how psyched Edward is, for some reason its getting on his nerves." She shrugged as if she didn't understand it.

"Oh, don't worry, its no problem at all."
Before Bella could offer help with the really heavy boxes, Alice had already zipped up and down the steps in the amount of time it took her to walk across the room alone. She shook her head in disbelief, as she continued to shove her clothes away. Being around such a remarkable family of vampires only made her more eager to be like them, to close the one gap that there had always been between she and Edward. The only reason that she had agreed to a public marriage was so that he would change her and they could be close in every way possible... Every way... She felt her face grow hot at the thought, the color rushing to her cheeks. Turning away from Alice, she tried to hide her sudden embarassment, while fumbling with a hanger.
"Especially the wedding, you know how much fun I have with stuff like that."
Her humility immediately forgotten, Bella grimaced at the smirk she could hear in Alice's voice. "Yeah, well, just don't have too much fun..." She muttered, suddenly angry at herself for obliging to the guilt-trip that she had been confronted with at her birthday party over at the Cullen's place. Why was she so weak? If only she could've remained stronger and avoided Alice, then perhaps she and Edward could've stuck to their plan of going to Vegas.
Then again, Bella remembered how excited Edward had been at the prospect of a real, traditional marriage. His wonderful eyes had been alight with happiness when he had slipped his mother's engagement ring onto her finger, his face consumed by a joy that she had rarely seen outwardly shone by him. Although she knew he would have a quiet, secluded wedding if she really wanted to, one would have to completely heartless to wipe that smile off the face of a fallen angel. Just for him, she was going through with this horrific torture. Only for Edward Cullen...
"You know, you'll thank me later. For the wedding I mean. I've already told you that, because its true."
Bella snorted in a most unlady-like fashion. "That'll be the day." She said skeptically, and added, "Maybe your brother will thank you, but not me. The only reason I'm doing this is because it seems to make Edward happy. Only for him would I put on a poofy white dress and kiss him at an altar for fifty people to see." She grumbled, then grudgingly ended her little rant for the day.
"So are you excited? I mean, Jasper's been complaining about how psyched Edward is, for some reason it's getting on his nerves."
Although Alice seemed not to understand why Jasper was irritated by Edward's ecstasy for the wedding, Bella had a hunch. She frowned slightly, feeling a rush of pity for Jasper. If she had to guess as to why he was irked by his brother lately, she would say that he was probably jealous that he and Alice hadn't gotten to have their own magnificent wedding with all their friends and family adoring them. She suddenly felt horribly guilty for griping about her own upcoming wedding, when her almost brother-in-law was hurting or envious because he hadn't gotten to have his own with Alice.
"Oh, Alice..." Bella murmured, unsure of what to say. She felt infinitely sad, and wanted to somehow make it up to Jasper. After complaining and being sinfully ungrateful for the chance to be bonded forever in holy matrimony to her soul mate in front of her family and friends, she wanted to be joyously happy. Yet, somehow she couldn't bring herself to be excited, despite her guilt. She also couldn't decide whether to tell Alice what she thought, for it would be strange for her to tell the vampire about what her husband in practically every way but lawfully was feeling. "Do you think he's... jealous because he didn't get to have a wedding with you, and that Edward being so gleeful about his own is making him feel as though he's missed out on a wonderful experience?" She bit her lip, watching the girl beside her carefully.

"No, you know how Jasper is, he's so quiet, I think he'd be more jealous if you had decided to sneak off to Vegas. Which I'm glad you didn't by the way." She added, turning to Bella and flashing her brilliant white teeth.
"No, its because he feels emotion, he's just annoyed by the amount of Edward's, not the actual emotion itself."
"And don't worry, I won't." She paused, "Have too much fun I mean, with the wedding." She paused again, "Your not excited at all? To be marrying Edward?" She studied Bella, her eyes sweeping her face.
Alice would have been surprised if Bella said no. She knew how much she loved Edward, and thought Bella would have been excited for that.
((By the way, from your first post, I don't think Jacob imprinted on Bella, I think that was the problem, he wanted to, but he didn't. I could be wrong of course.))

((Hm, I don't know... I just always assumed that he did, because of the part when he was like, "I can be anything you need. I'm just fine being friends." or whatever. Maybe you're right, though, I'm not sure. That's some food for thought... ;] ))
"No, its because he feels emotion, he's just annoyed by the amount of Edward's, not the actual emotion itself."
Slightly embarasssed that she had gone out on a limb and voiced her whole opinion before, only to have it shot down, Bella simply nodded understandingly and looked away. To be honest, she wasn't so sure. But then again, Alice had spent over a lifetime in Jasper's company, she would most likely know him better than anyone.
"Well, if he doesn't like feeling Edward's emotions about the wedding, then he'd better stay at least a mile's distance clear of me, because I'll bet you anything mine are twice as intense." Bella said, with a slightly dramatic sigh. She placed her favorite blue blouse carefully inside one of the boxes, shaking her head slightly. Marriage... It wasn't that she feared the idea of being bonded by law to Edward for eternity, it was far from that... But the idea of getting lawfully wedded at eighteen years old seemed so... old-fashioned. But then, once she was a vampire, age wouldn't really matter any longer. The time would all blur and blend, ages and other human concerns forgotten. When you were immortal, forever was like a millisecond -- there and gone before you could even blink.
"Your not excited at all? To be marrying Edward?"
Bella could feel Alice's gaze on her, seeing straight through her, penetrating the mask of her expession. She shifted uncomfortably, for she had never enjoyed being stared at intently, and bit her lip. "Well... I guess I am, a little bit. But he and I... We came from such different time periods, it seems normal to him to be getting married at such young ages. But to me, it just weird and old-fashioned. Stay-at-home mothers are practically extinct at this day and age." She paused, gathering her thoughts. "But then, being changed into an indestructable vampire isn't exactly an every-day occurance. I guess knowing that I'll never have to leave him, that we can be together forever after the wedding, is the only thing that's getting me through this. I just have to keep telling myself that."
Glancing over at the window, she set down the slacks that she had been folding and journeyed over to it, watching the rain come down in thunderous sheets. Bella laid her head against the cool glass, and it reminded her of Edward's icy embrace, the sensation that she would never get tired of, no matter how long they were together. "Alice..." She began tentatively, still watching the stormy weather outside, "It doesn't make sense." She stated, her tone lifeless and bleak. "How could someone like Edward ever love me, want to spend every waking moment of his existence with me, even prior to my becoming a vampire? It's something I've never understood." Bella lifted her head from the glass, and looked at her vampire friend with an almost sad expression.

Alice smiled, coming over to stand beside Bella. "And here I thought you were going to ask a hard question." She shook her head, smiling. "Its cause you're you I suppose. You surprise him every time he turns around, and besides, none of us really understand Edward."
Alice slung her arm around Bella's shoulder, being careful not to use too much strength. "Wait, are you complaining?" She asked, glancing at Bella. "Because you know, I may have to tell Edward your complaining about him loving you so much." She tilted her head, considering for a moment, "Of course, then he'll be pulling that apart for weeks on end, and it might ruin my wedding plans a little."
Alice pulled her eyebrows together on her forehead as if she was seriously worried about her wedding plans, though she knew not even Edward could stop her now.
"What I don't get, is why you love Edward so much. I mean, I don't think I've ever heard of a human loving a vampire before." Alice smiled again, hoping Bella knew she was joking.
